I Had No Idea What I Was Making :)

Ever since I saw this post
at A Colorful Journey
I haven't stop thinking
about what to do.
I mean I am the Queen of frugal
and reusing stuff when it comes to
art and scrapbooking.

Now the idea here wasn't to scrapbook
it just started with knowing that I needed a background.
And to tell you the truth I made this
while my preschool classroom was doing art
I sat with my kids to do art together
(and they love it!)

Anyways, I used the watercolors dot markers
also called bingo markers
and started with the lighter color
marking circles all over the page.

Then I came home and went to my recycle bin
and found this red envelope from a Christmas card.

I cut the corners, but since the envelope was written on the front
all over the place, I only used two of the corners.
Then I used an edge puncher to decorate the plain edge,
and place it on my background.
It looked a little plain so I went ahead and started
decorating the circles with a fine black permanent marker
making swirls, stitches, zig zags and little x's
in a few of them.

So far I had no idea what I was making,
then... the idea just came to me:
"this could be a background for a picture"
I've been wanting to go back to scrapbooking so much
that I really, really! don't want to put it off anymore.

So I looked in my stuck of pictures and place one right in the middle.

Thank you so much for visiting me:)
And thank you Carolyn for the challenge
and encouragement to use what we already have :)

Now I don't want to stop
making art and scrapbooking :)

Love,

I Love Scrapbooking

Today I realized how much I miss scrapbooking.
I kept on looking at scrapbook pages online
and my hands were itching to start playing with paper :)
So as soon as I had some time to relax
I started working on this digital layout of my nephew.

I've in the process of cleaning my art/scrapbook table
I seriously want to go back to do some traditional scrapbooking
maybe make some videos of my scrapbook process
together with some art techniques since I want to mix
scrapbooking and art.
I love making my own backgrounds,
so that will be fun :)

Don't you think so?
Have you mixed scrapbooking and art?
Please let me know in your comments so I can go take a look at your pages,

Thanks

She even waited to give it to me
at the beach just because the set has
tropical colors :)

How cute is that?

Acceptance #WOIW With A Little Secret...

Wow!!! What a word!
Kraaft Shack has WOIW which means: "Word Of Inspiration Wednesday" and this is the word for this week: ACCEPTANCE

Boy!!! that word got stuck on my head :)

I'm going to let you in a secret of mine... for me the hardest thing through out my life has been to accept myself :/
that's right! believe it or not, that has been my reality for many years. Until, thanks to my husband that taught me that I have to take care of myself and be who I truly am.

For years now I've been on the search of...

who am I really?

what do I like?

what would I do if...?

By reading lots of self help and self esteem books I have learned to accept who I am, to accept myself and now... I am SO HAPPY!!!

I keep on reading self help books just because I always like Psychology.
I like the idea of self grow; I love to learn and I think I always will.

Anyways... for about a year now I've been watching people how they do art journaling and for a few months now I started exploring it myself.

Even though I like a lot, I could even say I love it, I love playing with the colors and techniques and experimenting with different things I realized that I miss Scrapbooking which I got into since my older daughter (now 20) was a baby.

As always life takes place and you do what you like less and less, I took the route of doing digital scrapbooking for a while there, since I moved and couldn't get to my scrapbook supplies, but now that I have ALMOST everything in place I want to go back to it.

It seems like traditional scrapbooking is dying but I miss it and I am going to do it!
You see, that word comes to my head again... ACCEPTANCE

I have to accept that I am not an expert art journaler like I would like to be.
I have to accept that I want to keep on scrapbooking and I LOVE IT! even though technology is taking over.
I have to accept that I LOVE mixed media also even though I don't do it as often as I want to.

ACCEPTANCE  is really going to take me farther than what I thought!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting this word out, is like it was meant to be for me. At the same time that my prayers are asking for clarity in my life and some other things that I am trying out :)

I am a Cosmetologist.
I am a Preschool Teacher.
I am an Artist in my own way.
I am a Mother.
I am a Wife.
I am a learner.
I am a Writer (sorry this is long)
I am a Daughter.
I am a lot more things...

I am who I am, this is my ACCEPTANCE :)

Fall Fun Digital Layout

I've been thinking for a while that I want to go back to scrapbooking, traditional that is.
But since I haven't organize my supplies I figure I can start by doing a digital scrapbook layout
I made this one last night using my PSPX2 program.

I hope it encourages and inspires somebody out there :)
This layout can be done easily in a traditional way also :)

Art Journaling for Scrapbooking Pages

I am so happy to share these backgrounds that I made today,
I got up really early this morning, just couldn't sleep anymore...
usually when this happens I go to the living room and read,
but this time I took advantage and went to my super messy garage
and without thinking I went straight to my art journaling supplies
got my things out and started working on my backgrounds,
that's all I wanted to do,
at least just a background that I can use in my future scrapbooking :)

So here is how I made this one:

I prep the page with gesso a while ago
and used this page to clean extra paint from another art journal paper
that's where the pink lines came from,
but can easily get them like that by using an old credit card.
Then I use natural sponges with acrylic paint to do the edges
with pink and brown,
then I took my honey comb stencil and sprayed
with my purple and lime green homemade spray paints
let it dry, then came back and experimented with my new
gelatos that my little daughter gave me for Christmas :)
but I only use it with the stamp
you can see it a little bit on the corners in blue.

Now this second background that you see here is
the thrifty side of me...
after spraying on top of my stencil
I took a new page and flip the stencil around
to make a mark in the new page

I like it just like it is, I think is ready for some scrapbooking on top :)

So what do you think?

Have you made something lately?

Please share with us by leaving a comment with a link to your new creations,
and thank you for stopping by :)

Challenge Day 16 & 17 Digital Scrapbooking

Is really hard for me to use the computer during the weekends
so here I am today with my challenges from saturday and sunday
trying to be creative in a different way
I have play with my pictures creating a digital scrapbook :)

I work with PSPX2

for this picture I only added 2 diffent frames
but I colorized them with her favorite colors

This one has a charcoal effect

Pencil Effect choosing a pink color

Pencil Effect with a white color

Brush Stroke effect

For this picture I darken the background and
used a mask as a frame

This picture took me a lot of time,
as I had to remove all the background from the picture
make it a tube and then make the rest of the frame
using borders and inner bevels

And for this one I didn't remove the background
just added some borders
and decorate them with patterns to make it
stand out a little bit

Well, that was my creativitiy for the weekend,
let's see how do I get creative today
and hopefully post it tonight :)

Thanks for visiting

What I learned today :)

This is what I learned today,
On my PSPX2 I learned to play with brushes and add pictures inside of frames,
it might be pretty basic for a lot of people, but PSP has soooo many features
that it's pretty exciting to make new layouts.

I need to learn how to combine colors better
but I am working on it right now too :)

Any advice? I love constructive criticism :)

Building a Bunny House

This is what it has been keeping me busy for the last couple of weeks

We are separating an area for our bunny to live in, since we live in Florida he can be outside most of the time, but since he likes to dig! we have to go through a process.

First we had to mark the area, then we had to take the grass out and dig down

to put chicken wire on the bottom, since they dig they'll escape if the wire is not there
(believe me, it already happened to us)

We also dig a few holes to put the posts (4x4) with cement to hold the fence that we are going to put as walls

When we are done putting the wire on the ground and the fence on the sides, we have to connect them, and put some sand and grass on top for bunny to have a living area of his own, but now we are stuck since it's raining so much here in Florida :(

I'll post some pictures when we are done :)

Thanks so much for reading, I know this is not artsy or crafty, but I had to take pictures and make a layout of such a hard work lol

Right Brain Left Brain

I've been really curious lately about what creativity has to do with the right and left side of the brain

so I did a search to take a test for it and I found this one here for free :) it only took a couple of minutes to do it and I am SO amazed with the results:

It says that I am 60% Left Brain and 40% Right Brain

But when I really, really think about it, it might be right lol

I am a hairdresser who practice for nearly 12 years then I had my second daughter and decided to be a preschool teacher which I did for 6 years, the hairdressing career falls under being creative and the preschool teacher falls under math and science, I love doing both things but when it comes to my hobby is all art, what's up with that?

Aren't I supposed to use my right brain more? lol

Would you take the test and come back and share with me your results? :)

Mini Layout Challenge Day 5

Due to the lack of pictures of when I was a child, I haven't been able to do The Big Idea Festival Challenge in order, but here is my Day 5 Challenge

One of the themes you get to choose from is "iconic candies" as you see here there are lots of them that you might not recognize, thank goodness for the internet where I found the pictures of candy from my country, Ecuador, like

Tango which is out Oreos, with the difference that instead of being a chocolate cookies, the cookies are vanilla with a chocolate cover,
then we have the Chiclets (bubble gum),
Salvavidas (Lifesavers)
The candy corns from here which we bought everytime we came to the States and take them to Ecuador,
and last but not least the candy on the bottom right corner are Chinese candy that my Grandfather gave us everytime we went to his house :) (sigh) they had a rice paper cover that melted in your mouth, so delicous, I miss them :)

Hope you like it, thanks for stopping by :)
