A Look Inside...

I know my blog hasn't been the most active in the world at all, but as I reflect on why is that? I realize that my passion is hidden under a bunch of problems, is like a mountain keeps on piling on top of my hobbies without letting me get to them.

Two weeks ago I took a part time job, after not working for 8 months, is really taking me off track. I already had that stay at home mom routine going for me, where I did the cleaning, laundry, dishes, shopping and even cooking done in the morning while my daughter was in school.  But now I am working in the morning and still have to keep up with the house all by myself, my husband just works way to hard, from 6am to 6pm with a bad back and now some broken ribs due to a car accident. So pretty much the house is all on me.

I try to set time aside at night to unwind and at least read or do some crochet, since I can't do the rest of the stuff I like, art journaling or scrapbooking, and I see why... for those things I have to set up a work space, a table or an area where I am going to lay my stuff down and dedicate a little time to it.

As much as I love to do all kinds of crafts: crochet, knitting, crafting with my daughter, embroidery, etc. my real passion is in Scrapbooking BUT my approach to scrapbooking is a little different than what you usually see out there; is a combination of Art Journaling (without the journaling) I just don't like that part, and the creation of my own embellishments, now THAT'S where my heart is. That's when, for reason, I get all energized just by talking about it :)

So you'll be seeing more of me now, as I unwind and tell you what's going on with my life, and how to I approach this problem I have, maybe you are or have been in a similar situation where we can relate and help each other :)

Thanks for reading my craziness as I look inside myself...

Love,

Team Spirit knitted Beanie

My daughter goes to USF and was telling me that she doesn't have anything with the college colors, buying things in college and while going to college can get expensive, so I took the more affordable and entertaining route :)

I knitted a hat using yarn with her college colors

this is a picture she took herself when she got her beanie in the mail, isn't she pretty :)

I didn't have to much yarn left so I wasn't sure it was going to be enough, thank goodness it was.
I think I had about half a skein for it and it worked!

To make it I searched through the internet for a few free patterns and mixed a few instructions here and there, but mostly I used this pattern here to guide specially through the decreases.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog :)

Mixed Media: Using Paper Scraps

I decided to play a little bit with some paper scraps
I cut them all in strips
glue them to my little art journal page
and after it dried I drew some bunting with markers
some swirls on the border with a fine tip pen
the house with a pencil
the tree with colored pencils as well as the see-saw and the ball

I think is cute :)

Thanks for looking :)

New Year, New You!

I usually don't make a big deal out of New Year resolutions, I don't even set any at all.  But since a lot of things have changed for me in the last few months, I am going to do this different this year.

I am promising myself a less procrastinating year,

I am going to put in practice everything I learn and share here in my blog, like the techniques I see in the internet for crochet, knitting, embroidery, art journaling, scrapbooking, etc.

I am going to eat fruits and vegetables every day,

and drink water every day (I know this is not crafty, but I must do it, I am not getting any younger so might as well take care of myself starting now, and I can do it, at least drink water while I am doing my arts and crafts)

That's really all I can think of right now, but I'll add to my list as it comes to me :)

Getting It Together for the New Year - Make it Yourself

As the New Year approaches super fast
I am trying to get all my crafts ready and more organized

I usually have my crochet and knitting together since they both use yarn
but not anymore,
I found that having them separated it helps me keeps my projects in order.

So I made my own basic crochet kit
you can add more to it as you learn to make more things
but this will do to start with:

Scissors
Yarn
Yarn Needle
and a Crochet Hook

For a basic knitting kit
all you need are:

Scissors
Knitting Needles
Yarn Needles
and Yarn

I do like to do Art Journaling also
for which I have a little more than the basic stuff
and of course you can add a lot more than this

Besides my Journal, I have in my basket:

Scissors
glue
water colors
markers
colored pencils
gesso
acrylic paints
chalk
artist tape
and index cards

For my basic Embroidery kit
you only need:

Needles
I like to keep them in a needle book that I made
pincushion
pins
embroidery floss
and you can also make your own thread bobbins out of milk jugs lol
scissors
embroidery hoop
and fabric

Besides these I also do Traditional and Digital Scrapbooking

For the Traditional Scrapbooking I have
repurposed an entertainment center in my garage,
just like art journaling the materials to use here can be unlimited
but a basic kit would have:

Patterned Paper
Cardstock
Scissors
Acid Free Glue stick
Double sided tape
Paper cutter

And here in my drawers you can see:

Punches
Stickers
Brads
Ribbon
for which I made my own ribbon organizer
and different types of embellishments

I took me a while to get organized, specially the scrapbooking part or it
but seems like I finally got it done.

I just have to set all my crafts in baskets that I can carry along with me :)

I hope this helps you and inspire you in some way :)

Watercolor Journal Page

I finally had the opportunity to Art Journal
while my daughter was playing with her coloring book
I took advantage and pulled out my Art Journal
and started drawing the anchor that she had in her coloring book
then I just decided to play with my watercolors
to give it a stain glass look to it
Now I just can't think of a catchy title,
can you?

Thanks for visiting me :)
